Updates from Uganda: Time for School

I have been receiving small text messages here and there from Becca and the rest of the crew as to what they are doing and how it is going over in Uganda. For the past week they have been traveling across Uganda and taking the kids back to school. From what they said it has been an extreme treat to have the three amigos [as i have dubbed them] arrive just in time to spend a few precious days with. Unlike some of the children that they will be in school with these children are orphans. Their family is each other and to have an adult come and visit them and give them love means the world to them.

Please as you go through this week keep these children in your prayers as well as Becca, Jason, and Josh as they are sharing the love of God through their actions and learning so much in the process!

TFBP: Reports from Uganda

I spoke with Becca today. The three are doing great and they were able to pass out our first batch of friendship bracelets. This past

Tuesday they were visiting New Hope Christian Academy in Apach, Uganda and felt that it was the perfect time to spend time with the kids and pass out friendship bracelets.

They were visiting the kids at their school and had them get into a big circle and got the opportunity to speak with every individual child and tie a friendship bracelet on their wrist. The three said the kids faces lit up as they received their individual bracelet.

the hEART project: Penn State University

There is more fun than getting a group of your close friends together, grabbing some snacks, shopping for jewelry, and changing the world...all in an hour.


D and a few of her friends decided it was time to start spreading the word. We sent her a handful of t-shirts, and a box of our hEARt earrings. She held some earring parties at her apartment and from the response is looking into making a Go Change Move club at her university.





 It starts with a simple thought, compassion, drive, and the understanding that it takes that first step in a new direction to create change. With the help of her friends they are going, changing, and moving at PSU.

GCM: The Friendship Bracelet Project

GCM - The Friendship Bracelet Project:

After traveling to Uganda we decided that we needed to do something. How do you tangibly give to children that have nothing...where do you start. How do you involve people that cannot give monetarily and cannot travel over...what do you do. We were faced with this question as well as the ringing remembrance that these children shared everything...even the clothes on their back. Having support from the organization Go Change Move we have been able to come up with a way. We have asked all of our friends, their friends, and the pattern has continued to take a few minutes and make a friendship bracelet. This is a grass roots effort to support a globally heart breaking issue - orphans and bringing them hope.

Why friendship bracelet?
This is something that we can bring in bulk, that can go around their wrist as our missionaries spread love and hope to these children. The idea is simple sit with a child and get to know them. My mind is brought back to the trip to Africa that our friend asked them what they wanted more than anything, their response was for someone to know their name. The goal is for us to remember names and faces and to give them something to remember us from. By giving them a small token, a friendship bracelet, they will always be able to remember that there is someone out there that loves me and that remembers me and my name.

What has happened from this project?
Through Go Change Move we were given the support through volunteers to get a lot of the bracelets made, we also received bracelets from around the world from Singapore and Australia to the US and Canada. We have three missionaries over in Uganda that took these bracelets with them. Check the facebook page for other info!

How can you get involved?
Education = Compassion = Action
Become educated on this project as well as the other projects from Go Change Move as well as the organizations they support. Grow compassion for your brothers and sisters that are suffering and then take action.

Throw a friendship bracelet party and have you and your friends make a handful and send them to us.

Talk about it amongst your scope of people and see what you can do to get involved.

the hEART project: Brittney

Brittney

Raleigh, NC

Brittney is a senior at Western Carolina University where she is studying to get her degree in special education. Brittney was the president of her sorority Alpha Chi Omega, and while holding this position they received a huge amount of awards including chapter of the year. Part of the reason they were honored with this award was through their philanthropic efforts.

Alpha Chi Omega's philanthropy is to help victims of domestic violence. While president Brittney, along with the rest of her chapter, helped raise awareness and money to go to these women and children in their local community that have fallen victim to domestic violence.

During the summer months Brittney works at her local YMCA at Camp G.R.A.C.E. (Growth. Recognition. Achievement. Character. Encouragement) which is in partnership with A Small Miracle inc. Camp G.R.A.C.E. is for children with pervasive developmental disorders(PDD) or Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Her passion and inspirations are driven through her love of community and her compassion for children and the hopes to see them succeed. Brittney has gone changed and moved through her leadership and fearless commitment to her peers and the youth she encounters daily.

the hEART project

After trips to Uganda and Jamaica in 2010, four friends decided it was time to step out of the comfort of American Suburbia and begin a personal mission to change their world. Go|Change|Move is a place for you to start. Start by supporting businesses that support world relief. Start with a short - term trip to a country in need. Start by opening your home to your neighbor. Our hope is to connect you to the world that needs you, in a tangible, manageable way.

You have heard the saying, "wear your heart on your sleeve", we ware ours on our ears. Every pair of earrings we sell half of that money goes straight to drilling wells, health care, education, and giving a better life to our brothers and sisters that we are called to help. The other half goes straight back to making more.

Raising money is great to be able to give to those in need, but the more important thing is to educate our sphere of influence about what is truly going on in our world and what we can do to help.

We have had such great response with our hEART earrings that we wanted to share some pictures, stories, and inspirations that people have sent us! Becca is off to Uganda!

One of our dearest friends is off to Uganda for the Summer. She will be splitting her time between two locations and while there spread the love of God to those she encounters. We will be posting updates, pictures, and stories we hear from her.

Where have you been the past few months?

I hope you are doing great! We have been swamped with such amazing opportunities these past few months and I am just now getting the chance to post. Below is a brief breakdown of what Go|Change|Move has been doing, and what you have been doing to help support us!!!

April

We held a TOMS day without shoes wa

lk. TOMS shoes partnered with our YMCA

and we decided that it was time to educate those in our

community about the simple need of shoes around the world. With our teens leading the event we had thousands come out and participate in walk a mile in our shoes awareness walk.

To give you an idea of what the night looked like we rented out a local park. We had shirts made with the TOMS and

YMCA logo and then showed this video. Our Y is currently building relationships with The Cherokee House in Ethiopia,

Africa. When setting up our partnership with TOMS we de

cided that all of our efforts, money, shoes raised would go to Ethiopia.

Although this picture seems graphic... it is the reality for millions in our world. This is 100 % preventable ...the answer

SHOES.

To see the sheer amounts of people that came out to show their support and to learn about

what is going on in our world. Education = Compassion which = Action. We saw this happen in a hour with people when they came in to learn what was going on, watch the video clip, grow compassion, and act by walking a mile barefoot. It was reassuring to see the support and love we received from all those around us. From the beginning we gave the event to God and did as we felt he wanted us to do. Article about event

Along with the walk we began to collect lightly used shoes to help areas around the world that have been through natural disasters such as Haiti and Japan. Article about event

These past few months have been life changing. We have realized how many people truly want to Go, Change, and Move and how easy it can be.
